My recital consists of four works that are different in style. The first, Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Sonata for piano and cello Op.5 No.2 in g minor, was written in 1796 and demonstrates the classical style. The second work, Dimitry Kabalevsky’s Cello Concerto No.1 Op.49 in g minor, was written in 1948-49 for a young generation of Russian musicians. This piece is full of strong Russian flavour. The third piece is Variations on a Theme of Rossini, written in America in 1942 by Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. To conclude, there is Lao Kham Hom, a traditional Thai song arranged for cello solo, which blends it with Western harmony but is still representative of the sound of traditional Thai tunes.
