Nina Vanhoenacker, Master recital cello

Dit recital brengt een reis door het Oost- en Centraal-Europa van de 20^e eeuw waarbij de cello centraal staat, beginnend in 1924 wanneer de Tsjech Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) het fantasievolle Pohádka (‘sprookje’) uitbracht. Tien jaar later schreef  de Russische componist Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) zijn sonate voor cello en piano in re klein, op. 40, één van zijn vroege werken. Een heel ander werk is de sonate voor solo cello van György Ligeti (1923 – 2006) uit 1953. Hierin verkent Ligeti het brede klankspectrum van de cello in twee contrasterende delen. We sluiten deze reis af in Georgië, met Nach dem Weinen (of Having Wept) van de hedendaagse componist Giya Kancheli (1935), een ingetogen werk voor solo cello.

This recital is a journey through Eastern and Central Europe of the 20th century with the cello at its centre, starting in 1924 when the Czech Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) released his imaginative Pohádka (‘fairy tale’). Ten years later, the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) wrote down his sonata for cello and piano in d minor, op. 40, one of his early works. An entirely different work is the sonata for solo cello by György Ligeti (1923 – 2006) from 1953. In this work, Ligeti explores the broad sound spectrum of the cello in two contrasting movements. We conclude this journey in Georgia with Nach dem Weinen (of Having Wept) by the contemporary composer Giya Kancheli (1935), an introverted work for solo cello.
