Robbe Van Assche

Het masterproject van Robbe bestaat uit drie cello’s, telkens gebouwd naar het voorbeeld van de cello uit het Vleeshuis museum te Antwerpen. Dit instrument zou volgens het label zijn gebouwd door Breton, een 19^de-eeuwse Franse bouwer uit Mirecourt. Echter, Breton was niet de bouwer, zijn naam werd na zijn dood gebruikt als handelsmerk door diverse bouwers uit het 19^de -eeuwse Mirecourt. Het doel van het masterproject was om een consequente manier van bouwen te vinden door verschillende technieken uit te testen op de eerste cello’s en deze samen te brengen in het derde instrument. Dit resulteerde in een methode die voor mij als bouwer het meest efficiënt werkt.

Robbe’s master project consists of three cellos, each built after the example of the cello from the Vleeshuis museum in Antwerp. According to the label, this instrument was built by Breton, a 19th-century French builder from Mirecourt. However, Breton was not really the builder; after his death his name was used as a trademark by various builders from the 19th-century Mirecourt. The aim of the master project was to find a consistent way of building by testing different techniques on the first cellos and bringing them together in the third instrument. This resulted in a method that works most efficiently for me as a builder.
